		The BRAINYBRACELET Story . . . As a mother of 4 young boys I noticed that I went from taking good care of myself and making time for things like exercise, to carpool and baseball games. When I made the decision to make a change and try to commit to something as simple as drinking 8 glasses of water a day, I found that it wasn’t as easy to keep up with as it was without 4 children! I started counting by using rubber bands and sliding them over as I drank a glass of water. The idea grew and I believed that if I came up with something that people would be able to wear (not the rubber bands from the mailbox) that we might stand a chance of making a change and starting a new habit. "The idea grew...if I came up with something attractive" "The idea expanded from water to other ways that the bracelets can be useful to us in everyday life." I mentioned before that I am the mother of 4 boys, but didn't tell you that the 3 youngest are affected by Type I diabetes (also known as insulin dependent). My children are 16, 15, 12 and 11 years old. The 3 youngest have been diabetic since they were 2, 4 and 7 years old and are faced with a minimum of 6 finger sticks a day for the drop of blood needed to adjust their insulin levels. Parents of diabetic children are constantly watching their children's blood sugars and asking them "Did you check?". In order to turn some of the responsibility of managing their disease, I came up with the concept of using the bracelets to represent each blood sugar check throughout the day. Each bracelet is debossed with a checkmark as a reminder to the wearer. The concept began with children in mind, so I have come up with 6 colors and youth sizes for younger children, and another set of colors for adults who are also trying to start this good habit. I am a believer in the power of prayer. The bracelet idea grew again to help remind me to pray more often. I decided that even if I started with the simple prayer my grandmother used to have me say each night, "now I lay me down to sleep...", then that was a good thing. I chose a number of 5 and made a decision to pray at least that many times throughout the day. Simple and random prayers throughout your day. Medical bracelets were mentioned by friends who have parents who take multiple medicines a day. (One friend even carried it over to remembering medication for her pet who gets medicine 3 times a day.) The bracelets are debossed with the universal symbol for medicine.
